Him and his brothers and sisters got advertised on "Trademe" (an NZ online auction site) at about three weeks old to start booking homes for them. Me, living in Otago, saw the photo and wished I were closer, then carried on browsing other auctions. The litter was readvertised many times. Many had found homes, but there was still some left. When they were 9 weeks old, on the 29th June, I happened to be in Auckland so I went to have a look. Needless to say, Shade came home with me! Showing off his belly... Shade is a real character, and has a wonderful calm personality. He was all macho when going through puberty, but has settled down now and is a super sweet boy. He is one of my favourite boys out of them all. Shade loves getting attention. I have taught him to accept a harness and lead. It doesn't mean I take him for walks like a dog, but I can let him run around most places safely now, and I can also take him outdoors on my shoulder and into the pet shop and stuff to spread the word about how great rats are!!! hehe. The harness just means I have a 'safety net' if he fell from my shoulder. He'll be unable to take off in a hurry, but if I allowed him to struggle and wriggle he would probably still be able to get out!! Shade was bred to Skie and has fathered an absolutely stunning litter or bubs. Their information is on the litter page. Shade has been a great boy and a brillient dad.
